Directions to Frost Cottage
Address: Frost Cottage! The home with TWO separate street addresses!
It's either — 218 Nellie Lane,
Boulder Creek or 14205 Frost Blvd #2, Boulder Creek, CA.
Phone: 831/ 421-2972
Important: Bring a flashlight. There are no street
lights.
The directions how to get here are fairly simple — just DON'T use
a digital map; yahoo and mapquest and others are using out-of-date
maps of this area and they're totally wrong.
From Santa Cruz and points south:
- From Highway One, go Highway 17 NORTH towards San Jose.
- At Scotts Valley, you'll want to exit on the Mount Hermon Road
exit. The exit ramp bears you around to the right, and then you'll
make a LEFT hand turn onto the actual Mount Hermon Road. (It
crosses over the freeway.)
- Go through the many stoplights and shopping centers that are
Scotts Valley. You're going to stay on Mount Hermon Road until it
ends. This will take you through a winding, beautiful, and
uninhabited valley — just keep going along until finally Mt.
Hermon Road stops at a stop light.
- You can either go right or left — go RIGHT. (This is Graham
Hill Road.)
- Immediately get into the Right Hand Lane — you'll be making
the NEXT RIGHT at the next stop light, which is onto Highway 9 in
Felton.
- Once you're on Highway 9, settle down for the 'don't blink or
you'll miss them' three-mountain-town tour. You're already in
Felton.
- You'll go through Ben Lomond, Brookdale, and finally, the town
of Boulder Creek. (All of this will take, oh, ten minutes.)
- Once you arrive in the town of Boulder Creek (pop. 6000),
you'll come to A STOP SIGN. Pass through the stop sign, noting the
fire department building on your right, and the Rainbow's End cafe
on the next block.
- Pass them all, and exit town, going over a small bridge over a
small river.
- The FIRST RIGHT HAND TURN (and it ONLY goes to the RIGHT) you
can make is onto Bear Creek Road.
- Turn onto Bear Creek, and check your odometer.
- You're going to go exactly 1/2 mile from the intersection of
Highway 9 and Bear Creek Road.
- Once you pass a small street on the right (after several
hanging American flags), called "Lanktree" (do NOT turn down
Lanktree!!!! Not not not!) you'll see a large gravel turnout area
(clearing) on the RIGHT side of Bear Creek Road.
- There might even be trucks (huge ones) parked in it. Pull into
this turnout (several small driveways and roads come off of it).
Go ahead and park IN the turnout – being careful to observe the
signs asking you not to block various driveways.
- From here, you’ll be walking about 1/12 of a mile down a small
country lane.
- As you face the turnout, you'll see a handmade sign reading
"Nellie Lane" — on the left.
- Go down Nellie, it's paved for half of the road and gravel the
rest. A LOT of potholes. This is why having a flashlight for
the trek back out is essential.
- You'll see a sign that says, "caution, blind curve ahead" and
there's a 90-degree blind curve to your right. Keep going, and
after this curve you'll see the road opens up into a small
compound of cottages.
- We're all the way in the back – a sign over the door welcoming
you, along with a brass Durga statue. In front of the deck, you’ll
see a statue of Mary in the roses.
- The homa will be taking place BEHIND the house, on the lower
back deck. Just walk around the bamboo and flowers on the right of
the house to get there.
- Of course, if you get lost, feel free to call us — 831/
421-2972.
