Directions to Becca and Stephy's House
It can be a little tricky getting to Becca and Stephy's home in
the redwood forests of Boulder Creek—the place they call "Serenity"—particularly
for those who've not been there before. The problem lies in
the fact that the roads have changed significantly over the last two
decades, while the USGS maps have not! Still, it's worth the
effort, as their place is a beautiful haven set deep in acres of
redwoods, madrones, and oaks.
Most online mapping services are based on USGS baseline maps—which
then attempt to direct you to follow a road (Tinker's Trail) that is
no longer a through-street, but a dead-end. If you're on
Tinker's Trail, you're on the wrong road and only a long hike
through the woods will get you to your destination.
Following are different versions of the directions to get to
Becca & Stephy's house, all of which go the same way, but just offer
increasing levels granularity as needed.

Final note: Carpooling and/or small vehicles are
suggested where possible, because parking is limited.
Extra Short Version
- Route 9 to Boulder CreekðForest
Ave/E. Lomond (2 blocks, cross bridge)ðIrwin Way (1mi, super-narrow, go slow)ðLEFT on Fairmount Ave (1mi
to T-intersection)ðRIGHT on Elsie Mae Dr
(0.1mi)ðCul-de-sac
- Continue on Private Road to end (0.25mi, narrow, go slow), 671
Elsie Mae;
park as near to house and as tightly as possible
Short Version
- In Boulder Creek, take Forest Ave / East Lomond Ave two blocks
to the bridge across the San Lorenzo and cross it; road (now Irwin
Way) curves sharply to the right to follow the river
- Stay on Irwin Way 1 mile until you get to Fairmount Drive, on
the left (do not be fooled by the similarly named 'Fairview Ave'
much earlier)
- Take Fairmount to the top of the hill, about 1 mile, curvy and
rather steep in places
- At the top, Fairmount/Nina Dr ends at a T-intersection; turn RIGHT onto Elsie Mae Dr,
downhill to cul-de-sac and Private Road (marked with sign)
- Continue on Private Road to end (0.25mi), 671 Elsie Mae; park
as near to house and as tightly as possible
Detailed Directions
- Take Route 9 into Boulder Creek, to Forest Ave (on the side of
the street between Oh Susannah's Hairdressers and Ace Hardware).
Take Forrest and keep straight as road becomes E. Lomond Ave.
Follow towards the bridge (<0.2 mi total).
- Road becomes Irwin Way after crossing bridge (go slow,
as it is very narrow); follow 1 mile to Fairmount Ave (do not take
Fairview Ave, near bridge) and turn LEFT up the steep hill. If
following Irwin you get to a narrow one-lane bridge back over the
San Lorenzo River, you've gone too far.
- (Note: Coming from south of Boulder Creek along Route 9,
rather than using Forest Ave, one can instead turn right onto the
southernmost terminus of the Irwin Way loop, a half mile
short of town. Follow Irwin Way, a narrow winding one-lane road to
one-lane bridge, cross it, and continue approx 0.25 mile to
Fairmount, where one would turn right to head up the hill.) (This
alternative not recommended for large vehicles.)
- Take Fairmount all the way to the top, about a mile (along the
way, it becomes Nina Drive), ending at a T-intersection, Elsie Mae
Drive.
- Turn RIGHT on Elsie Mae Drive, go downhill to the cul-de-sac,
then follow
Private Drive all the way from there to the end (go slow, as it is a one-lane
driveway with multiple houses along it).
- Address is 671 Elsie Mae Drive; when you see the sign with the
house number, you have about 0.15 mile yet to go.
- Park as near to house, including under carport if available,
and as tightly as possible to allow maximum space.
- If house/carport area is full, park near water-tank & sheds;
if that's full, park near the tight bend further out; if that's
full, park at the house address number sign turnout and walk in.
